We are Seeking a Part-time/Freelance Bookkeeper

Founded in 1974 by a group of lesbians, including Deborah Edel and Joan Nestle, the Lesbian Herstory Archives (LHA) is the world’s largest collection of materials by and about lesbians. For more than 50 years, the LHA has thrived as a grassroots community archive — collections, staffing, and outreach are managed by a team of unpaid Coordinators and supported by a diverse, multigenerational team of volunteers and interns.

In addition to welcoming visitors and researchers from around the world, maintaining and building our collection, and increasing access to the collection in a variety of ways, we also host events, fundraisers, and receive donations and grants to support our work.

We are currently seeking a part-time bookkeeper to support us in three specific ways: 1) helping to transition from prior accounting methods to updated/new accounting methods; 2) ongoing bookkeeping support on a weekly basis (1-4 hours per week); and 3) assistance when we file our annual taxes.

All are welcome to apply; we strongly encourage LGBTQ+ bookkeepers to apply.

Please send your resume no later than June 15, 2025, including information about your bookkeeping experience/interests, and also your fees/rates to bookkeeper@lesbianherstoryarchives.org
