Support: Today
The Lesbian Herstory Archives sustains itself
through the generous donations of Lesbians, Gay
Men and friends from the extended community of
caring individuals who support our work. We set
our budget and expenses based on the money we
receive, not on our projected hopes or dreams.
We are well aware of what needs to get done and
have the knowledge base and expertise to do it.
However, we only take on projects that have expenses
when we know where the money will come from. Every
year our financial statement lists our donations
and the sources of the funds. We are debt free
and pay whatever expenses we have on our credit
cards as the bills come due.
At this time in our existence monies come from a number of different
sources including:
- Individual donations from the worldwide community;
Visitors to the Archives, those who know of
our work, those who have heard us speak or have
seen our exhibits, those who read about our
work, all send in funds.
- Royalty payments from the Thompson Gale Publishing
Microfilm Project and access payments from the
EBSCO periodicals project have been a significant
income source in past several years and should
continue on a smaller basis for several years.
- A few smaller grants helped to cover some
basic structural repairs as well as local publicity
of events.
- Matching grants from some individuals working
in major corporations, which provide this opportunity
for additional funding.
- Estates, which have been settled after the
death of a community member; contributions from
special occasions and celebrations such as birthdays,
commitment ceremonies and weddings
- Grants from individuals who want to support
the costs of particular project -via United
Way donations
- Community Clout
- Lesbian organizations wanting to make a donation
or closing down and looking for a home for the
extra funds
- And many other sources.
